Rapper Badshah released his third studio album, Ek Tha Raja (translated as ‘once there was a king’) on March 18. The album not only commemorates his 12+ years in the music scene but also underscores his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Featuring collaborations with over 15 superstar acts from the Indian music industry including Arijit Singh, Karan Aujla, Hiten, Divine, Nikhita Gandhi, Raftaar, Aastha Gill, Seedhe Maut, Kr$na, Prajina, Shai, MC Stan, Mehar Vaani, Ikka, Dino James, Fotty Seven, Raga and Sharvi Yadav, the album’s narration was done by none other than superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Ahead of his album release, Badshah dropped an announcement video, disclosing a never-seen-before line-up of collaborations across 16 songs. Taking the excitement among fans a notch higher, Shah Rukh Khan himself lends his voice. Speaking to Variety, the rapper revealed he had approached SRK’s management for this unique collaboration. “The next day I got a half-hour long file with those seven dialogues spoken in different emotions and that day I found out why Shah Rukh Khan is Shah Rukh Khan because once he’s in it, he gives his 200% and he’s just so kind. All those things that you’ve heard about him are true,” Badshah said.

Not only, talking about working with one of the biggest singing sensations Arijit Singh, he added, “I was really excited about working with Arijit Singh because he’s someone I’ve looked up to. And, more than that, I was just happy to be in his company and learn a lot of things from him. Because, he for me is like a higher power,” Badshah said. “I composed and wrote the lyrics for the song and sent it to him. When it came back, it was a different song. I was literally crying listening to my composition in his voice. That was an almost supernatural catharsis.”

Ek Tha Raja aspires to surpass even the loftiest of expectations and is merely a coronation of a new era in music, where the king reigns supreme. Badshah will be seen touring arena shows across the US, Singapore and Canada through the summer.
