Awez Darbar represented India at the global fan celebration of Michael Jackson in Berlin, held ahead of the release of the upcoming biographical film Michael. The event, organised in association with Universal Pictures India and distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, took place on April 10 and brought together creators and fans from across the world.
Berlin served as the venue for what was positioned as a large-scale tribute to the King of Pop, with attendees participating in a series of immersive experiences celebrating Jackson’s music and legacy. The evening featured themed installations, performances, and a red carpet gathering, creating a global platform for fans to honour the late artist’s enduring cultural impact.
Darbar’s presence marked a notable moment of Indian representation at the international event. Known for his work as a dancer and digital creator, he has often cited Michael Jackson as a major influence on his artistic journey. His participation reflected the continued global reach of Jackson’s legacy and its influence on performers across generations.
Speaking about the experience, Darbar said, “Representing India on a global stage while celebrating Michael Jackson is truly an incredible honour. He has been my idol for as long as I can remember, and I’ve grown up dancing to his music. His artistry has played a defining role in shaping my journey as a dancer. Being in Berlin for this makes the experience even more special.”
The event was also attended by Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who plays the lead role in the film. Michael is scheduled to release in cinemas in India on April 24, bringing the story of the iconic performer to the big screen.
