Avinash Tiwary asks an uncomfortable question, “Today Manoj Bajpayee and Kay Kay Menon are considered finest, but how many people visit cinemas to watch them?”

en Bollywood News Avinash Tiwary asks an uncomfortable question, “Today Manoj Bajpayee and Kay Kay Menon are considered finest, but how many people visit cinemas to watch them?”

The actor is gearing up for his next theatrical release, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, which hits cinemas on April 24.

Avinash Tiwary has quietly built a space for himself as one of the sincerest performers of his generation. He’s never chased the obvious. Instead, he’s leaned into roles that demand emotional depth whether it was the heartbreak of Laila Majnu or the still, simmering intensity he brought to Bulbbul. Even with something as different as Madgaon Express, he showed he can shift gears without losing that core honesty in his performances.

Avinash Tiwary asks an uncomfortable question, “Today Manoj Bajpayee and Kay Kay Menon are considered finest, but how many people visit cinemas to watch them?”

But beyond his work on screen, Avinash is now drawing attention for something else – the way he looks at the audience itself.

In a recent interaction with Mashable India, the actor spoke about the word “underrated,” a tag that often follows actors like him. And he didn’t hold back. “When we say someone is underrated, what do we really mean? If you ask people who the best actor in the country is, many will say Irrfan Khan. But how many actually went to theatres to watch his films?” he said.

It’s a question that hits harder than it sounds. He went on to point out that this isn’t limited to just one name. “Today, actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Kay Kay Menon are considered among the finest. But how many people actually go to cinemas to watch them?” he added.

What Avinash is really getting at is simple appreciation today often stays online. We praise performances, call actors brilliant, even “underrated,” but that admiration doesn’t always translate into buying a ticket. And in an industry that still depends heavily on theatrical footfall, that gap matters.

With this, he’s not just questioning a label, but also the way we, as audiences, show up for the kind of cinema we claim to value.

Meanwhile, Avinash is gearing up for his next theatrical release, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, which hits cinemas on April 24. Co-starring Medha Shankar and directed by Prasshant Jha, the film sees him step into a more mainstream space; one that might just put his own argument to the test.
