Archana Puran Singh is gearing up for a busy October. She has not only resumed her role on The Great Indian Kapil Show but is also making her return to films after a four-year break. The actress will star in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video alongside Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Archana explained that her extended absence from films was mainly due to the demanding schedule of The Kapil Sharma Show during its television run.
Archana Puran Singh reveals she took break from films due to The Kapil Sharma Show; says, “I had to turn down a lot of film offers”She noted that she had been receiving consistent film offers, including one from producer Vashu Bhagnani. However, the rigorous pace of the comedy show left her with little time to pursue a film project. With the show's transition to Netflix and its new seasonal format, Archana now has the flexibility to explore film opportunities again, prompting her to sign on for Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video
Archana said, “When we were on television, we didn’t get any breaks. We had fun doing episodes over and over, and we got a lot of riyaaz (practice). The entire team was always energised, but I had to turn down a lot of film offers. Now, I’m thrilled that I have the time to accept films.”
She further added, “Vashu ji and many other producers and directors had offered me projects. Nowadays, films are shot more overseas than in India, so there was always a balance to strike. I’d often get calls asking me to come to Scotland for a 20-day schedule. But I’d reply, ‘I can only commit if you’re shooting in Mumbai.’ Some shoots were in Mauritius, some in Australia. And we used to shoot Kapil’s show two or three times a week. Even if a film was being shot in Mumbai, sometimes I still had to decline. Now, I’m happy there’s a better balance.”
She recounted being in England when Vashu Bhagnani approached her about a film part. He assured her it would be a brief schedule, but it conflicted with her commitments to Kapil's show. She shared, “I was in England when I got a call from Vashu ji. He said, ‘You won’t even need a visa, just come for 20 days.’ But I told him I had a flight back the next day, and I had to shoot for Kapil’s show right after.”
Despite declining multiple film offers, the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai actress has no regrets. “No regrets at all. I thoroughly enjoyed that journey, and I’m equally enjoying this new chapter,” she said.
The Great Indian Kapil Show releases new episodes every Saturday on Netflix, while Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is scheduled to premiere on October 11.
