Anurag Kashyap speaks on replacing Ranveer Singh in Bombay Velvet: “I tried very hard” : Bollywood News

Anurag Kashyap has opened up about why Ranveer Singh was replaced by Ranbir Kapoor in his 2015 film, Bombay Velvet. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kashyap said that Singh was really keen to do the film and had even memorised all the dialogues. However, the budget for the film had blown up by the time Singh was cast, and it wasn't feasible to make the film with him anymore.

"He really wanted to do Bombay Velvet. He had even memorised all the dialogues," Kashyap said. "But the budget had gone up so much that it wasn't sustainable to make the film with him."

"I tried very hard. I tried so hard that I even postponed the shoot of Bombay Velvet and shot Ugly, hoping things will get right in that time because Ranveer also, at that time, started doing Lootera. So I waited," said Kashyap.

Kashyap said that he still feels guilty about replacing Singh in Bombay Velvet. He said that he should have cut down the budget for the film, but he didn't understand the financial aspects of filmmaking at the time.
