Anurag Kashyap reveals about approaching Sobhita Dhulipala to contact Vikram when she was shooting Ponniyin Selvan with him : Bollywood News

Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is quite excited about the response he has been receiving for his neo noir thriller Kennedy, which features Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. However, quite some time back, the filmmaker had revealed that he wanted to approach South superstar Vikram for the role because of the film’s title with his name since the actor is also known as Kennedy John Victor. However, he went on to mention that Vikram never responded to his calls, which was why he had to ask Sobhita Dhulipala to ask her Ponniyin Selvan to return his calls.

In a recent interview with News18, Anurag Kashyap also mentioned that Vikram did make an attempt to reconnect with the filmmaker for the film but couldn’t because he was quite late. Kashyap explained the incident saying, “, “I reached out to Vikram on a number that he doesn’t use any more. My friend, Sobhita Dhulipala, was working with him on Ponniyin Selvan. I told her to tell Vikram that ‘Ek Message ka toh reply kar diya kare’ (please ask him to reply to one message, at least). She, in turn, told Vikram that ‘Anurag has sent you a script’ and he was like ‘I never got it’.”

He continued, “And that’s when he called me but it was seven months too late. We were neck-deep in the pre-production process and Rahul had already prepared for the role. Then he was like ‘You wrote the script for me’ and I was like ‘You didn’t reply’. And then he asked me ‘which mobile number of his I had’. Then he showed me three different numbers that were active. I told him I didn’t know how to reach out to you and I had your number from four years ago when I was trying to reach out to you.”

For the unversed, in an earlier interview with Film Companion, Anurag had opened up about Kennedy saying, "I actually had a specific actor in mind, when I wrote this film. Which is why the film is called Kennedy. Because that actor's nickname is Kennedy. The film was called Kennedy Project. It is Chiyaan Vikram. Chiyaan Vikram's real name is Kennedy. I reached out to him. He never responded.”
