On Friday, veteran actor Anupam Kher took to social media to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his debut film, Saaransh. The film, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, was released on February 2, 1984, and went on to become a critical and commercial success.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Kher shared a scene from the film and wrote about the significance of Saaransh in his career. He recalled the hard work and dedication that went into making the film and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have played such a challenging role at the age of 28.

"Today, 40 years ago, on this very day, February 2, 1984, a 28-year-old young man shot this scene in Mumbai's Film City under the direction of director Mahesh Bhatt ji in his debut film Saaransh," Kher wrote. "That young man did not know that this scene would become an integral part of the history of Indian cinema. This scene not only had the power of acting, but also the years of hard work of that young man, the dust of the streets of Mumbai, the pain, the suffering, the humiliation by people, but never the courage to give up.”

He further added, “Otherwise, at the age of 28, it was not possible to express the deep emotions of a 65-year-old man only through acting! Even after 40 years, I am still standing. And I will continue to stand. I am proud of myself. My hard work. And my honesty! Jai ho!"

For the unversed, Saaransh is a Hindi-language drama film that tells the story of an elderly couple who are forced to come to terms with the death of their only son. The film was praised for its realistic portrayal of grief and loss, and for its powerful performances by Kher and his co-star, Rohini Hattangadi.

Saaransh was a landmark film for Kher, who was then a relatively unknown actor. The film's success helped to launch his career.
