Akshay Kumar to renounce his Canadian passport; says, “I have applied to get my passport changed” : Bollywood News

One of Bollywood's biggest stars, Akshay Kumar, is currently busy promoting his forthcoming movie, Selfiee. The actor is also preparing for his next world tour in addition to the movie. Over the last few years, Akshay Kumar has been receiving criticisms for his Canadian citizenship. He has now said that India is his only home and that he has already registered for a change of passport.

In the opening episode of the new season of the TV show Seedhi Baat, Akshay remarked in an interview with Sudhir Chaudhary that he feels guilty when people make assumptions about why he became a citizen of Canada. He said, “I thought that my films are not working and one has to work. I went there for work. My friend was in Canada and he said, 'Come here'. I applied and I got in.”

“I had just two films left for release and it is just luck that they both became superhit. My friend said, 'Go back, start working again'. I got some more films and I kept getting more work. I forgot that I had the passport. I never thought that I should get this passport changed but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed and once I get the renounced status from Canada...”

Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited family entertainer Selfiee, directed by Raj Mehta, starring alongside Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharruccha is all set to release on February 24 across the globe. The actor will also be seen making his Marathi debut with Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a Mahesh Manjrekar film, which will be making it to the theatres on Diwali 2023.
