Actor Ahaan Panday may be building his career in Hindi cinema, but his early interests extended well beyond film sets. In a recent interview with Esquire India, the Saiyaara actor spoke about enrolling in classes for 3D modelling and video game design as part of a broader attempt to explore multiple creative disciplines.

Panday described himself as someone drawn to different forms of artistic expression from a young age. “I’ve done all the acting workshops in Andheri. I’ve been a part of a theatre group. I’ve done all sorts of different things. But nothing has taught me more than life has taught me,” he said.
Among those “different things” were structured courses in 3D modelling and video game design — an unusual choice for someone now pursuing a mainstream acting career. His curiosity for digital art and gaming was part of what he calls an intense drive to keep learning.
“I was so obsessed with the idea of excellence that I felt I had to keep doing this and that. It was just do, do, do,” he admitted.
Long before professional training, Panday had been experimenting creatively. In third grade, he wrote a short book about a boy bullied for being too short, which he now recalls with amusement over its spelling errors. As a teenager, he also ventured into music production. “It was electronic music. It’s called Bass Trap and I think it's still available on SoundCloud,” he said.
Despite trying his hand at multiple art forms, he maintains that reading has had the most direct impact on his development as a performer, preferring books over visual content because it “tremendously helps his craft.” Singing, however, is one area he readily rules out, conceding it is “not his forte.”
Panday also shared that his wide-ranging pursuits were, in part, influenced by conversations at home. His parents had considered sending him abroad for higher studies, hoping distance from the film industry might shift his career plans. “They were hoping that once I leave, I’ll find a job, start earning, and forget this dream of being in the film industry. They had seen the highs and lows my uncle had gone through. They were freaked out,” he said.
The overseas move did not materialise. Instead, Panday stayed back and continued preparing for a career in films.
