Actor Ahaan Panday is currently immersed in film prep for his next project, but away from the set and gym floor, he has been spending time with a book that has caught his attention — 'Butter' by Asako Yuzuki.

In a recent interaction with Esquire India, Panday shared that he recently began reading the Japanese novel, adding that he has developed a growing fascination with Japan’s cultural and artistic sensibilities.
“They’ve retained their love for the physical world around them. It’s unadulterated by social media and what they see on their phones. You can see it in their literature… [Haruki] Murakami is a favourite. He just makes you fall in love with the mundane,” he said, referring to celebrated author Haruki Murakami.
Outside of work, the actor maintains a relatively grounded routine. “I have nine [school friends], and maybe three of them have seen Saiyaara,” he said, speaking about his close circle and how he prefers spending downtime with them.
During the same conversation, Panday hesitated before sharing a more personal revelation. “I actually got a whole surgery done after the release of Saiyaara last year,” he revealed. “And it’s one of the most painful surgeries you can do, with the longest recovery time.”
The surgery stemmed from a snowmobile accident a few years ago that resulted in a shoulder subluxation. The injury had affected his gym performance and, given the physical demands of his next action film, he chose to address it surgically. According to Panday, his doctor warned him that post-procedure, his body would “go back to zero,” making it “nearly impossible” to achieve the required physique.
Now fully recovered, the actor says he is pleased to finally speak about the experience — and to have “prove[d] everyone wrong.”
