Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur starrer much anticipated Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha has been delayed yet again. The actor got talking about this and more in an interview with us.
Dacoit delayed again, why?
We were not being assured that we would get the required number of theatres and showtimes in Hindi due to the other two films Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic releasing on the same date (March 19). It was a practical decision.
Could you share your thoughts on how the film has shaped up as you seem to have worked harder on it than any of your films so far?
The film is definitely close to my heart and we have made the film together as a family. My best friend Shaneil Deo is the director and we really aspired to make a neo-Western for the contemporary audience. Indian Soul. American Aesthetic.
The film pairs you with Mrunal Thakur for the first time. What is she like as a co-star and how would you describe your chemistry with her?
She’s been extremely gracious and giving. She’s put her heart and soul into the role of Juliet. After our ‘Rubaroo’ song release, people are telling me that we really have all the various emotions of love shining through.
The Telugu film industry is going through a recession. Was it tough negotiating a big budget film like Dacoit through the recession?
More than a recession, I think we were going through an Artificial Inflated Bubble of Sales. Now that’s burst, I feel we are back to normal, but post COVID, costs of all things have forever changed…and THATS the actual problem.
How much has the Dhurandhar factor affected your content and release?
Content, no. But release, yes. I truly believe Dacoit is a layered emotional love story told in the rhythm of an action film. Dhurandhar is the country’s biggest film and is a big reason we moved our date to get better showcasing. Due respect needs to be given.
How would you describe your journey as an actor so far?
I’m fortunate to be one of a few hundred people who stars in my own theatrical films, out of such a large population. To get the recognition, credibility and the love from the audience is truly humbling.
If you had to do your career again from scratch, what would you change?
I wouldn’t be at this spot if I didn’t have this journey. Nothing to change. I just have a lot more to appreciate. I know a little more now.
Who are the actors and filmmakers you grew up idolizing?
I idolized Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth as actors and Michael Mann, Christopher Nolan as directors.
When does Adivi Sesh turn into a director officially?
I don’t think I have the mindset for direction at the moment. I’m too emotional.
When are you getting married?
If I can get some sleep first and a vacation, I’ll think about these other big life questions.
