As he prepares for the release of Subedaar, Aditya Rawal has spoken about sharing screen space with Anil Kapoor for the first time, describing it as a defining experience in his career.

Rawal recalled feeling hesitant during an action sequence that required him to raise his hand against Kapoor’s character. “I was a bit hesitant because it is Anil Kapoor in front of me,” he admitted. Sensing his discomfort, Kapoor stepped in. “Sir put his arm around me and said, ‘Tu tension mat le zara bhi, tu kar jo tujhe sahi lagta hai… hum ek baar karenge, sahi se karenge ekdam.’ That liberated me completely and gave me confidence to perform that scene.”
Praising Kapoor’s work ethic, Rawal said, “His involvement and collaboration on set are unmatched. His professionalism and dedication is unmatched, which everyone in the industry knows.” He added that simply observing the veteran actor was a lesson in itself. “You spend a day with him on set and you will learn 10,000 things — whether it’s the stories he tells or how he functions before action and after cut. It was a phenomenal experience.”
Rawal also shared advice from his father, Paresh Rawal, before he began shooting. “He just said that you’re going to have the time of your life working with Mr. Anil Kapoor, because the passion that he has will motivate you and you will get to learn so much from him.”
In Subedaar, Rawal plays a formidable antagonist, a departure from his earlier roles. “It’s a character that is so no-holds-barred, so colourful, so dangerous,” he said. “Playing a character so different from myself is challenging, but there’s also a sense of freedom.” He described the part as a vote of confidence from the filmmakers. “To be entrusted to hold my own as a strong antagonist alongside legendary actors like Anil sir is humbling.”
On choosing diverse roles, he said, “As an actor, I try to ensure that every role I take on is different from what I’ve done before. It’s a way to constantly challenge myself and give audiences something fresh.”
When not acting, Rawal keeps busy with writing. “When I’m not shooting, I’m writing. I have two plays currently running and I’m working on another one,” he shared.
Directed by Suresh Triveni, Subedaar also features Radhikka Madan, Saurabh Shukla, Mona Singh, Faisal Malik and Khushboo Sundar, and is set to premiere on Prime Video on March 5, 2026.
