Actress Aditi Rao Hydari, currently basking in the success of her web show Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, recently opened up about her experiences of working with Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Hydari spoke about the brilliance of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and her memorable moments on set with these celebrated actors.

Aditi Rao Hydari shared her awe upon stepping onto the set of Bhansali’s Padmaavat just three days after finishing Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai. “I walked onto the set and of course, I was mesmerized because it was just like, ‘What is this world?’ Incredible. I was very overwhelmed,” she recalled. Her first scene was with Ranveer Singh, a longtime acquaintance. Hydari recounted, “He was shaking me, and I realized, ‘You’re right, you’re right.’ It was really, really incredible.

Discussing her time working with Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 hit Rockstar, Hydari expressed high admiration for the actor. “Working with Ranbir was mad. He’s incredible, so incredible. He’s one of my favourite actors and he’s so present. He can convince you of anything.” Her respect for Kapoor’s talent and dedication was evident, highlighting his ability to be convincingly authentic on screen.

Hydari also shared her deep appreciation for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, emphasizing his passion and dedication. “I love Sanjay sir,” she said, adding, “Everything he does comes from love and extreme passion. It’s very inspiring and amazing to see. Everybody talks about how he challenges his actors, but he challenges himself the most, to find that magic, to keep creating, to find something almost ephemeral. It’s an experience.”

Hydari’s latest project, Heeramandi, directed by Bhansali, is now available for streaming on Netflix and features a stellar cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Richa Chadha.
