The trailer of Om Raut’s Adipurush took place in a grand ceremony today in Mumbai, amidst media and fans. The film is based on the ancient Indian epic Ramayana. The filmmaker took the occasion to share how much the epic means to him through a conversation on the art of Ram Leela.
For the unversed, it is a musical play performance of the Ramayana that takes place throughout Navratri and concludes on the last day on Dussehra with the symbolic killing of Raavan through the hands of Ram. Raut has dedicated the movie to the many Ram Leela artistes in the country.
Speaking at the launch, Raut said, “The story of Ramayan is being told in India and abroad since long. Ram Leela is held in all our villages and cities since many years. Ram Leela has been going on since thousands of years. Each and every Ram Leela artiste has been working hard since so many years with such sincerity. I would like to dedicate Adipurush to all of them.”
Raut gave a contemporary analogy to describe the ancient epic Ramayana and its undying significance. “Ram Leela and Ramayan are told here since years and will continue to be told in the coming years,” said the filmmaker. “We feel that this is a bus, which we have boarded. We will travel in this bus for some years. We will then get off and other people will board it. But this bus, this journey of Ram Leela, will keep moving. As long as there will be Bharat, we will keep watching Ram Leela in different forms.”
Adipurush stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in the roles of Lord Ram, Sita, Raavan, Lakshman and Hanuman.
