Aamir Khan’s comment on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s song ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ shouldn’t be missed!

en Bollywood News Aamir Khan’s comment on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s song ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ shouldn’t be missed!

For most of us, ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’ from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is an unforgettable classic track. The placement of the song in the film was too good – Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) tempting Simran out of her house by playing the familiar tune on his mandolin and then appearing dramatically in front of her in the mustard field. The song then begins and goes on a dream-like mode. It was wonderfully picturized and this is something that everyone will agree. However, director Aditya Chopra highly disagrees. He in fact considers ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’ as the weakest song of the film in terms of picturization! He has opened about this aspect in the book 'Aditya Chopra Relives…Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', written by Nasreen Munni Kabir.

The writer-director revealed that as per his concept, Raj and Simran were to relive the moments they spent on their travels through Europe and to use those locations as settings for the antaras. He wanted to throw light on their lives after the film had ended – a kind of flash-forward. For some reason however, these shots were compressed in the musical passages of the song. The antaras of the song were filmed on the hills and valleys of Switzerland with Kajol wearing a chiffon saree. In other words, ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ became a typical Yash Chopra song, something that Aditya Chopra consciously wanted to avoid! But that’s what he ended up doing and bewilderingly, Aditya Chopra doesn’t even remember why it happened.

While everyone was raving to Aditya Chopra about ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ and the way it was shot and imagined, only one actor didn’t. And that person is none other than superstar Aamir Khan! He remarked that the picturization of the romantic track could have been better. He was the only one to make this comment and Aditya Chopra was pleasantly surprised with this observation of Aamir. To quote Aditya Chopra, “I said to myself, he’s more than Aamir an actor – Aamir is a filmmaker.”

Around 10 years later, both Aamir Khan and Aditya Chopra collaborated for the first time for Fanaa, which also starred Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actress Kajol. This Kunal Kohli directed film became a runaway success. In 2013, Aamir worked in Aditya Chopra-produced blockbuster Dhoom 3, which featured the former in a double role. At present, Aamir is shooting for Aditya Chopra’s Thugs Of Hindostan, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh. It is directed by Dhoom 3 director Vijay Krishna Acharya and releases on Diwali 2018.
