Aamir Khan has opened up about his son Junaid Khan carving his own space in the film industry, emphasising the latter’s decision to remain independent and avoid leveraging his father’s legacy. The conversation comes at a time when Aamir Khan Productions’ latest film Ek Din, starring Junaid alongside Sai Pallavi, is currently running in theatres.

Speaking about Junaid’s approach to his career, Aamir revealed that he has maintained a clear boundary when it comes to professional involvement. “No, I don't read Junaid’s scripts. He doesn't even want me to interfere in his career. He went to Los Angeles to learn theatre. He learned there for two years and did plays for a year. Then he came back and started a theatre in Bombay. He used to go to auditions for casting directors. At that time, no one knew that he was my son. He didn't tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone either.”
The actor further shared that he learned about Junaid’s debut film through an external source rather than directly from him. “Anyway, one day I got a call from Adi Chopra (Aditya Chopra). He said that he is taking Junaid in a film, Maharaj. I got to know about this film from the outside. He did a good job. So, he made his own career.”
Aamir also reflected on Junaid’s personality and his conscious decision to not rely on family support within the industry. “Actually, to be honest, as a father, he didn't let me do anything. He never took anything from me. I have told him many times to buy a car. It's a very odd thing that I always hug my kids. Like we are sitting at home, on the sofa or on the bed. So, I hug Ira, Junaid and Azad closely. When he was small, it was easy, and now he is 6 feet 2 inches. But even today, when I hug him closely and keep his head on my chest. I can’t even tell you how much peace I feel.”
Meanwhile, Ek Din has opened to a positive response, with audiences appreciating its simple narrative and the chemistry between its lead pair. The film also marks Aamir Khan’s reunion with filmmaker Mansoor Khan, reviving a long-standing creative collaboration that has previously delivered notable films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum, and Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.
Directed by Sunil Pandey and produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan, and Aparna Purohit, Ek Din continues to draw attention for its fresh pairing and rooted storytelling, even as Junaid Khan’s journey in the industry remains a talking point.
