Sanjay Dutt‘s comeback movie Bhoomi has been announced and its release date has been revealed as well. The film would be hitting the screens on August 4. However, even though one expects quite some hype to precede the release of the film, Sanjay Dutt won’t be arriving solo. He would be having Aamir Khan for company who has a cameo/special appearance in Secret Superstar which has been slated to arrive on the same date.
“Agreed that it is not a clash per se like that of Raees and Kaabil. After all, Sanjay Dutt is the central protagonist in Bhoomi while Aamir has a small part to play in Secret Superstar. Still, at the end of the day it is the coming together of two heavyweights on the same day,” says a trade expert, “Both films would be looked at quite keenly.”
Ironically, the last time Sanjay Dutt was seen on screen, it was in P.K. That film had him in a special appearance while Aamir Khan was the main lead. Now on August 4, the roles would be reversed for both the actors, albeit in different films.
“They both are also favorites of Raj Kumar Hirani and one waits to see if the filmmaker chips in to help avert this clash,” a Bollywood insider wonders, “He has made Munnabhai MBBS and Lagey Raho Munnabhai with Sanjay Dutt while with Aamir Khan he has made 3 Idiots and P.K. (with Sanjay Dutt in there as well). May be if he has a chat with them, one of the two films would move to a different date.”
While one waits to see that happen, the first step would be for director Omung Kumar to bring Bhoomi on floors.
“As of now, the casting of the film is on,” our source adds, “So far, the two things that have been officially confirmed are the facts that Bhoomi would mark the comeback of Sanjay Dutt on screen and the release date is August 4. As is the saying, there is many a slip between the sip and the lip. Both films are still more than six months away. So many things can change in time to come.”
However, while one waits for that to happen, the fact still remains that both films are eyeing the same date. There isn’t much of a breathing space for either of the two films to move one week earlier or later since Mubaarakan [July 28] and (tentatively titled) The Ring along with Crack [August 11] have already been announced.
