Everybody loves to watch movies, with Bollywood being our favourite since it’s full of masala! And needless to say we savour happy endings in them… Quoting the great Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan) urf Omi, “Agar picture mein Happys Endings nahin toh picture abhi baaki hai mere dost“.
But sadly, not all films end that way. Yes, it may seem that every grief has passed now, but if you give it a thought, indeed not ‘all izz well’ in these films!
1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
Perhaps this film is the biggest mine of hidden tragedies! It had poor dadi living in pain whose last wish was to see her granddaughter get married before she died and poor Punjab da sher Kuljeet (Parmeet Sethi) who was tricked by his hone wali biwi’s bboyfriend, was beaten up in front of his baarati and didn’t even get Simran (Kajol) or the ‘Stroh’s beer factory’. Then there’s Preeti (Mandira Bedi) who did the mother of all fasts – Karwa Chauth for the ungrateful Raj (Shah Rukh Khan). And how can anyone forget Kammo bua (Himani Shivpuri)?!! Poor bua… she’ll remain single all her life. Well done Dharamvir Malhotra (Anupam Kher)!
2. Hum Aapke Hain Koun
The precise time when the darling munna was going to get a mamma, the vicious Nisha (Madhuri Dixit) sent the crazy doggie to deliver the letter and it landed in Rajesh’s (Mnish Behl) hands! Bravo planning! And poor Rajesh…. He had smiled for the first time that day since Pooja’s (Renuka Shahane) demise, remember anyone?
3. Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara
The sweet but sad girls’ list is endless here… Just count… Nuria (Ariadna Cabrol), Natasha (Kalki Koechlin), Rohini, and Rahila (Deepti Naval)… All ditched and dumped by their guys! Shame on you!
4. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Almeida’s whole camp turned topsyturvy, thanks to dadi (Farida Jalal) and then there was poor hunk Aman (Salman Khan) who was so madly in love with Anjali (Kajol)… but mercilessly got left at the altar! Tell me if your heart did not go out for him too?!! Sob… Sob…
5. Dil Chahta Hai
So, Akash (Aamir Khan) got Shalini (Preity Zinta), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) got Pooja (Sonali Kulkarni) but what about our Picasso, Sid (Akshaye Khanna)? Wasn’t it supposed to be about three friends?!! Tara (Dimple Kapadia) died folks, he’s alone… Hush a little! Oh yes… he got that weird gypsy girl wandering in the ruins of Goa during the end credits… But so what?!! What about poor Deepa?!! And the chaltafirta time table; Subodh?!! Poor chaps!! 🙁
6. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
All right fine, Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) stayed back and now both scholar Naina (Deepika Padukone) and him are happy; even Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) moved on from her pagalpanwala phase and happily married the cute Taran (Kunal Roy Kapur) but what about Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) people?! In case you did not notice, he is still drinking, still under a lot of debt, still broke and his bar just got sacked! And you are shouting ‘Happy New Year’ out to him over the phone sitting with your respective beaus? Awesome!
7. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
This one is truly a ghazab kahani. Jenny (Katrina Kaif) was head over heels in love with Rahul (Upen Patel) and so was he! He was ready to leave his strong and powerful political family behind and run away with her… and suddenly Jenny feels… Rahul nahin I think I’m in love with this Happy club president Prem (Ranbir Kapoor)! So, now who’s left behind unhappy? Our poor, sexy and a heavy accented Up(h)en Pat(h)el!! And Prem Sharma’s (Darshan Jariwala) dad whose son turned non-vegetarian, that too just for a girl!
8. Jab We Met
When Anshuman (Tarun Arora) finally heard a bucket full of gandi gaalis from Bhatinda’s sikhni (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and came to his senses, and even managed to leave behind his ganne ke khet woes, the poor guy lost his mad, chatterbox, long time girlfriend to the business tycoon Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor). And now, there is no chance he’ll get her back. And how can you forget the poor Roop (Saumya Tandon) who was originally supposed to elope with the richie rich.
9. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
If you stay very still and listen carefully, you can still hear Haldiram (Johnny Lever) and his wife (Himani Shivpuri) repeating mournfully, ‘Kahangaye. Kahangaye‘ . Can someone please lend a tissue?
