Imtiaz Ali's last directorial, Love Aaj Kal, recently completed three years. It had released on February 14, 2020, and took a huge opening of Rs. 12 crores, thanks to youthful appeal, hit songs and the Valentine's Day factor. It starred Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in the lead and was supported by Randeep Hooda and Arushi Sharma. However, many are not aware that Dia Mirza, too, had a role in the film.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Dia Mirza had a small but impactful and important role in Love Aaj Kal. In the climax, she meets Randeep Hooda's character Raghu and the film ends with the promise that both hopefully will have some sort of equation together in the future.”

The source added, “However, in the final cut, it was removed as the makers felt that it did not go well with the flow of the narrative.”

Love Aaj Kal was the spiritual successor of the 2009 film of the same name, starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor. Both films were directed by Imtiaz Ali. The 2020 film, just like the 2009 flick, was set in two timelines and had the male actor playing the roles in both tracks. Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan's characters (Veer and Zoe) meet and fall in love in 2020 while working at a co-working space. The space is owned by Randeep Hooda aka Raghu who, in 1990, had crazily fallen with Leena, played by Arushi Sharma.

While the 2009 Love Aaj Kal was a major hit, collecting Rs. 66.56 crores, the 2020 film crashed after a fine opening due to poor word of mouth. It collected Rs. 35 crores in its lifetime.

Love Aaj Kal was the first time that Dia Mirza worked with Imtiaz Ali. She will soon be seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Bheed, co-starring Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar and Pankaj Kapur. As per certain reports, she also has a crucial role in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki.
