Jung (2000), starring Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Aditya Pancholi, Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty, completed 26 years on May 12. In this article, Bollywood Hungama will exclusively focus on the cuts given to this action entertainer by the then Examining Committee (EC) of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The CBFC passed Jung with an ‘A’ certificate. However, the EC asked the makers for several cuts. In the first reel, the visuals of blood spurting out during an encounter scene were asked to be deleted. The line 'Report mein likho encounter mein maara gaya' in the same sequence was also asked to be axed. In the second reel, the beating of Sanjay Dutt by Jackie Shroff was reduced by 30%.

The rest of the cuts dealt with the dialogues. The word 'harami' in the dialogue 'bahut harami hai tu' was deleted. An objectionable dialogue, 'Aur ek hi chhokri ko khujli kiya', was censored. The dialogue, 'Kya tumne apne maa se poochha' uttered by Shilpa Shetty, was deleted. The other dialogues which were axed were 'Dusra bhi ghusa de', 'Fati kya' and 'Neeche ke nahin'. All the aforementioned dialogues were replaced with approved dialogues.

Finally, the line 'Chumma de de, nahin te dunga gaali' was axed from the song 'Kadi Te Aana Balli Di Gali'.

Once the changes were made, Jung was passed by the CBFC on May 2, 2000. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 4191.51 meters. In other words, Jung was 18 reels long.

Jung was directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Satish Tandon. It is the story of an honest police officer whose son requires a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. The cop tries his best to find a donor but is unable to do so. Finally, he finds a donor in a criminal. But the criminal is not ready to do the needful as the same cop got him arrested and imprisoned in the first place. The film is fondly remembered for Sanjay Dutt’s performance as Balli and the catchy song ‘Aaila Re Ladki Mast Mast’. Interestingly, the film was written by Anurag Kashyap and Abhinav Kashyap.

Last year, there were plans to re-release Jung on May 9, 2025, to coincide with its 25th anniversary. However, for some reason, it didn't materialize.
