25 Years of Sirf Tum EXCLUSIVE: Boney Kapoor reveals how Salman Khan agreed to do the cameo: “He said, ‘You have drank for me. So, I owe you’; he had one condition on doing the role: he won’t take any money”

Sirf Tum (1999), starring Sanjay Kapoor, Priya Gill and Sushmita Sen, completed 25 years on June 4. The film is remembered for its unusual plot and chartbuster songs and was also a decent success at the box office. For producer Boney Kapoor, the musical entertainer is also memorable as it was his first film with Salman Khan. The superstar had a lovely cameo in the film. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with the veteran producer on this aspect on Sirf Tum’s 25th anniversary.

When reminded about the Salman Khan connection, Boney Kapoor smiled and said, “Sirf Tum marked the beginning of my relationship with him.”

How did Boney Kapoor convince Salman Khan to do this sweet role? Boney Kapoor narrated, “We were in Hyderabad shooting Judaai (1997) while he was shooting for Judwaa (1997). And I don’t like drinking. I used to drink during my college days. I am almost like a teetotaller now. Lekin kabhi ek aadh drink le lete the. That day, we all got together. We were even staying in the same hotel. Because of the company I had and because of the mood, he went on pouring drinks and I went on having it. We went to our respective rooms in the morning, at 6 or 7 am. Within a few hours, he went for the shooting. I was full flat the whole day!”

Boney Kapoor continued, “Sirf Tum happened, as a result. He said, ‘You have (drank for me). So, I owe you’. When we were working on Sirf Tum, I called Salman and asked him whether he’d be interested in doing the role. I informed him that it was just a two-day job. He replied, ‘Yes but only on one condition. I won’t take any money’.”

Boney also revealed, “In fact, Salman was even ready to do a guest appearance in Shakti (2002) as well. This time, when I approached him, he said, ‘I’ll do the role on one condition. You’ll have to spend one more night drinking with me’! Later, he realized that he doesn’t have dates and hence, couldn’t do the role.” Boney also clarified that this was not the same role played by Shah Rukh Khan in the Karisma Kapoor-starrer.
