The dramatic saga, Mohabbatein (2000), completed 25 years on October 27, 2025. The film had created tremendous craze due to the chartbuster songs, casting of Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan and also because it was Aditya Chopra’s immediate next after the blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995). The film also popularized six newcomers or upcoming actors – Uday Chopra, Jimmy Sheirgill, Jugal Hansraj, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma and Preeti Jhangiani. Preeti had already become a rage thanks to the album Yeh Hai Prem, and Mohabbatein took her fan following several notches higher.
Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama came across an interesting anecdote from the December 2, 2000 issue of Komal Nahta’s Film Information magazine. Just around a month after the release and super-success of Mohabbatein, Preeti Jhangiani celebrated the birthday of her secretary, Akash. And that’s not all. In a rare gesture of generosity, she handed him a cheque of Rs. 1,00,001! It was a significant amount in those days, and for an upcoming actress to do so made the gesture all the more remarkable.
The Film Information article also mentioned the reason behind it, “Perhaps, that was Preeti’s way of expressing her thanks to her secretary due to whose efforts she has bagged films opposite Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and Suniel Shetty.”
The films with Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty were the comic caper Awara Paagal Deewana (2002) and the action entertainer Aan: Men At Work (2004). However, her projects with Salman Khan and Fardeen Khan never materialized.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama during the 20th anniversary of Mohabbatein, in October 2020, Preeti Jhangiani spoke about her experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, “Mr Bachchan is such a humorous person that he puts you at ease immediately. Of course, when the camera was rolling, he’d get serious because of the character he was essaying. He would insist on hanging out with us. He’d tell us, ‘Don’t make me sit with the oldies. I am a part of you young guys. I want to sit with you guys and chat. Tell me what you are all discussing’! There’s also a lot to learn from him. His command of English and Hindi is very rare. You usually find a person who has a command of either of the languages. Mr Bachchan, however, is an exception.”
She further said, “Similarly, Shah Rukh doesn’t make you feel that he’s a superstar. He’s very charming and very, very helpful. And also, very, very intelligent! It’s so rare to find someone who can talk on any topic under the sun!”
