Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan got along like a house on fire when they shot together for Milan Luthria’s Kachche Dhaage in 1999. The film recently completed 25 years.

Recalling his bonding in the bromance with Devgn, Saif said, “Ajay was amazing! Very funny and friendly. We spent a lot of time together. Handcuffed on the set and driving around Rajasthan. Sometimes we would be driving for eight hours at a stretch. We were young… we shot long hours and went out for drinks to the jungle after wrap-up… I honestly feel that kind of thing won’t happen anymore. It was so hot. And we were doing action and riding horses and bikes. Ajay did a crazy insane stunt being dragged under a real train on little flint rocks. I did some cool jumps and gun stuff.”

Saif has not forgotten any details of the shooting. “We were shooting in May in Udaipur. It was crazy! It has remained a special film. I remember it vividly,” he said.

Strangely Saif doesn’t think much of his own performance in Kachche Dhaage. “I don’t really like myself in Kachche Dhaage. The voice is nasal and thin, and I wasn’t grounded as an actor … but it wasn’t too bad. The music was fantastic. We worked with the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Milan Luthria, who is also a friend, was a first-time director but he was very confident,” he said.

Saif also has some fond memories of his Kachche Dhaage co-star Namrata Shirodkar. “Namrata was great fun. She is a really nice, lovely girl. I have only warmth and best wishes for her always. I had also worked with her big sister Shilpa in the past,” the actor recalled.
