The visually stunning musical Lucky - No Time For Love (2005) completes 21 years today on April 8. Last year, director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama on the film’s 20th anniversary about the film’s casting, shoot in Russia, audience feedback etc. In the same conversation, they also shared a fascinating story about how Salman Khan went out of his way on the sets of the film.
Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru said, “There was an old lady who was his costume assistant. She was very old. Salman is very casual about his clothes, while she used to be paranoid about it. She would ensure that it was dustless and spotless. She didn’t realize how big a star he is. She used to make him stand for 10 minutes, brushing his coat of every bit of dust. And Salman would stand very patiently as she was so old.”
They added, “On the last day for Salman, you won’t believe, he gave a big thick envelope to her. He hugged her, kissed her and said ‘Take care’. Then, he went away. When she opened the envelope during the lunch break, it had a lot of money in it. She just wept and wept. She said, ‘The amount of money he has given me, I don’t think I need to work for 3-4 years’. She never expected he would do that, that too for just taking care of his clothes.”
Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru continued, “Moreover, she used to scold him for being careless about his clothes. He never once got upset about it. People talk a lot of things about Salman, but this is how he is in real life. I wish we could have recorded all the scolding. Unfortunately, we didn’t. She used to scold him every single day on the set; the unit used to be shocked (laughs).”
