The year 2017 certainly began on a dazzling note as the A-listers regaled us with their sartorial styles. But style is not an easy ground to tread and while their sartorial moments may be many, they also ended up erring with their sore fashion choices. In their bid to be edgy and experimental with the styling precisions of fashion stylists, celebs like Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Kangana Ranaut, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora and Sridevi Kapoor made some cringe-worthy appearances this year.
At a time when most of the actors and their looks are an interpretation of the styling sensibilities of their fashion stylists, the results failed to evoke a wow and here’s a closer look at their not-so-sartorial-moments.
Styled by Shaleena Nathani, Deepika Padukone stepped into a molten gold lamé gown by Monisha Jaising for the Lux Golden Rose Awards 2017. Sans accessories with the exception of studs, Deepika flaunted a dewy makeup of metallic eyes courtesy makeup artist Sandhya Shekar and a slightly messy hairdo, courtesy Yianni Tsapatori. The Golden Girl look featuring the risqué plunge easily moved into the tacky territory.
Styled by Tanya Ghavri, Katrina Kaif jumped aboard the promotional bandwagon for Tiger Zinda Hai wearing an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla blue creation featuring an off-shoulder top with a gold embroidered voluminous skirt. While the dress was uninspiring, her makeup of nude lips did not suit her complexion or the ensemble.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor donned a Zoe Champion ensemble with jewellery from Minawala and L’Afshar clutch for the Conde Naste dinner party for Massimo Bottura. A riot of colours that clashed horribly, the sartorial queen, Sonam Kapoor disappointed us with this style offering.
Styled by Cristina Ehrlich, Priyanka Chopra graced the premiere of Baywatch in Miami wearing a vintage Halston wrap dress featuring a plunging neckline and a slit. Rings by Nirav Modi and a sleek low back pony with centre parting rounded out her look. Our only grouse with this look are the sleeves that lend a stocky silhouette to her frame.
Styled by Mohit Rai, Kareena Kapoor Khan donned a powder blue gown by Nikhil Thampi for an event in the city flaunting those sleek shoulders and a risqué plunge. A diamond Jasmine necklace and a diamond Luminance ring both by Nirav Modi Jewels with dramatic dark lip color, nude eyes, and a neatly pulled back low pony rounded out her look. The dark lip colour lends a mature look that clashes with the severe hairdo and the pale coloured gown.
Styled by Allia Al Rufai, Anushka Sharma layered her black camisole with a blingy Roberto Cavalli suit and teamed it with light gold trousers for Phillauri promotions. A pair of metallic pointy toes and zero accessories, a subtle makeup and a sleek gelled back hairdo rounded up Anushka Sharma’s promotional look for Phillauri. Nailing two blazing trends simultaneously- layering and bling, Anushka’s OTT look fails to evoke a wow.
Styled by Ami Patel and Sanjay Kumar Dauhaliya, Kangana Ranaut wore a pink Paule Ka silk midi dress with a plunging neckline and a signature twisted bow in red for Rangoon promotions. A pair of red Louis Vuitton sandals, waves and a subtle makeup featuring heavy eyeliner and nude pink lips rounded out her look. The new age Barbie look was an eyesore as the ill-fitting silhouette and the splash of a red bow clashes with the already bright look.
Styled by Ami Patel and Sanjay Kumar Dauhaliya, Alia Bhatt graced the red carpet of Kids Choice Awards 2017 wearing a strapless Gauri & Nainika red dress. Sans accessories, she rounded out the look with a sleek hairdo and subtle makeup. The dress was a big let-down as it lent an unflattering look to her chirpy persona.
For the Bangalore Times Fashion Week 2017, Sridevi walked the ramp for PC Jewellers in an ensemble featuring a velvet off-shouldered blouse and an embellished bridal lehenga. Heavy jewellery and bright makeup rounded out her look. A gaudy look that left us utterly flummoxrf, Sridevi certainly went overboard with this one!
While 2018 on the anvil, we can only hope for the celebs and their stylists to daze us with their sartorial styles!
