Yaariyan filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar opened up about shooting in unique locations within India for her debut directorial.

One of the most beloved coming-of-age dramas, Yaariyan, which also marked the Hindi debut of Rakul Preet Singh, is completing 10 years on January 10, 2024. Showcasing the life of college students, hostel life, rigorous inter-school competitions and full of youthful life, the multi-starrer film, which marked the debut of Divya Khosla Kumar as the director, received a lot of love from audiences.

In an interview given by Divya to Bollywood Hungama years ago, the actress turned filmmaker opened up about how fraternity members, including Salman Khan, were left enchanted by the beauty of India and the secret was ‘virgin locations’!

Revealing about choosing India over foreign locales, Divya Khosla Kumar told Bollywood Hungama, “As an Indian filmmaker, I always believe in bringing out the best from my country. When I sat down and researched on the location I want to shoot in, I wanted to discover virgin locations and show to the people of India that we have as much beauty in our country as any other. They don’t have to just run away to Switzerland or for that matter any other country to shoot a film.”

Adding about discovering a unique location situated in the North-Eastern state of Sikkim, Divya continued, “So, I discovered this large chain in the north of Sikkim, which was extremely difficult to reach very bad infrastructure, but if you reach there, it will almost like heaven. It was so beautiful.”

Divya also revealed how filmmakers were left impressed by its beauty and were keen on knowing the location. “A lot of filmmakers are coming up to me and asking me which places and where have you shot? Like for example, yesterday Salman Khan was asking me, ‘Which place is this?’ So, you know there's been so many compliments pouring in. I think that scrutiny, hard work and the detailing to find the right location has worked.”

Yaariyan also starred, Himansh Kohli, Dev Sharma, Vedish, Evelyn Sharma, Serah Singh, Shreyas Pardiwalla, among others and was produced under the banner T-Series.
