Warrant issued against Mallika Sherawat?

en Bollywood News Warrant issued against Mallika Sherawat?

Often being in the spotlight for controversial statements, Mallika Sherawat seems to be caught up once again in a long pending legal case. She has been asked to appear before the court on August 19 by the Chief Judicial magistrate, as a bailable warrant has been issued against her for obscenity.

The details of the case can be traced back to December 31, 2006 when Mallika had performed at a renowned five star hotel in Mumbai for the New Year Bash. Former president of the Baroda Bar Association advocate Narendra Tiwari who saw her performance on television, filed a complaint against Mallika alleging her of obscenity on January 12, 2007 under IPC sections 294 and 114. Tiwari accused Mallika of giving out a provocative and obscene performance publicly. He also claimed that a spectator tried to stop the dance on stage but the organizers refused to stop the event.

Mallika tried to defend herself by filing a petition before the High Court after a local court sent her summons in 2007 based on a criminal complaint. However, the Gujarat High Court rejected it on March 2 for quashing a summon.

Further, the court had asked Mallika to appear before it on July 6, but since she and her lawyer didn't pay any heed, Tiwari declared that if Mallika misses the next date too, he will issue a non-bailable warrant against her and term her as an absconder.

However when we contacted Mallika's lawyer, he denied the development while issuing the following statement, "The recent news reports in relation to the orders of the trial court at Baroda in connection with a criminal complaint have incorrectly reported that 'non-bailable warrants have been issued in the name of Mallika Sherawat. The complaint was filed several years ago and a petition quashing of the same was filed before the Hon'ble Gujrat High Court in 2007 in which the orders were pronounced in early 2013. In the meantime it is clarified that no summons were served upon Mallika since she was not in India and upon the application of the complainant no 'non-bailable warrants' were issued. We have not yet received the formal orders passed by the court at Baroda."
