The newly-appointed head of the Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), Mr S K Mahajan, a former Supreme Court judge of Delhi, has taken a call about abusive language in the Vikram Bhatt-directed Love Games.
The Bhatts had opted to take the film from the Examining and Revising committees of censor board to the Tribunal whose newly-appointed head has made some revealing changes in the disputed film.
According to sources the English-language profanities 'f..k' and 'b.tch' have been restored. But the Hindi cuss word 'ch.tiya' has been censored.
Says a source close to the developments, "This is Mr Mahajan's first censored film as the chief of the Tribunal. And what he seems to tell us is that English-language cusswords are permissible. But Hindi abuses are out. Love Games will have 'f...k' and 'b.tch'. But 'ch.tiya' has been cut. Also scenes showing characters consuming drugs and alcohol have been allowed. But they will carry prominent statutory warnings."
Also, significantly the Tribunal under the stewardship of Mr Mahajan has reduced smooching scenes in Love Games by 50 percent.
One wonders what the newly-appointed panel to bring censor changes headed by Shyam Benegal has to say about the censorship of Bhatt's new film by the CBFC's Tribunal.
