It's a never-before multi-starrer with the entire Bachchan family Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Shweta Bachchan coming together on one stage.
And the one to pull off this casting coup is Shabana Azmi. For her annual fashion show in aid of the weavers of Mijwan, Shabana Azmi's ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh where her father the legendary poet Kaifi Azmi hails from, this year Shabana has roped in the entire Bachchan parivar to walk the ramp together.
That isn't all. Doting papa Shatrughan Sinha will also walk the ramp for the first time with Sonakshi Sinha. Anil kapoor and beti Sonam, Alia Bhatt and her mom Soni Razdan would also scorch the ramp for Shabana's favourite cause, as would her husband Javed Akhtar who walks the ramp with son Farhan Akhtar for the first time.
Says Shabana with earned pride, "I don't know how they agreed. But yes, the entire Bachchan family will walk the ramp together for the first time. It's an honour and a privilege. Anil-Sonam, Javed-Farhan, Shatru-Sonakshi, Shankar Mahadevan and his son Sid, are all walking the ramp on Saturday. The theme is Mijwan The Legacy and it is our fifth year. We have come a long way. The film industry has always been so supportive. I feel overwhelmed."
It yet remains a mystery how Shabana managed to get so many family members together from super-celebrity clans to burn up the ramp.
Laughs the diva, "You know what they say. Where there's a will there's a way. I firmly believe the film industry is one large family. We always come together for a good cause. I am overwhelmed that the Bachchans are coming together on one stage for the first time to walk the ramp, my friend Shatru is walking the ramp for the first time with his daughter Sonakshi. Anil and Sonam, Javed and Farhan, Soni Razdan and Alia have agreed to walk the ramp together for the first time for me. Shankar Mahdevan and his son will sing live together."
Shabana sees this as a befitting tribute to her father's legacy. "I am proud to pass on this legacy to my god-daughter Namrata Goyal (entrepreneur Naresh Goyal's daughter who pitches in every year to execute Shabana's Mijwan event)."
Manish Malhotra who designs the clothes every year for the annual event would surprise everyone with his creations this year.
Says Shabana, "Five people are coming to Mijwan with their fabrics. I cannot even begin to tell you how empowering it is for them to watch their craft being showcased by the film industry's leading stars. I am deeply indebted to all my colleagues. They truly care for the girl child and they believe in the Mijwan Welfare Society."
