Singham screenings disrupted in Karnataka

Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty's latest offering Singham has opened to mixed reviews with some saying the film is a must watch while others claiming that the film could have been better. However, Bangalore is another tale altogether, as four shows of the film Singham were cancelled in a theatre on Friday after pro-Kannada activists gathered in front of the hall and protested against the alleged anti-Kannada dialogues in the Tamil remake.

If that wasn't enough, the posters, banners and other publicity material that were put up in front of Tribhuivan theatre were torn by the agitators led by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike volunteers. The staff of Tribhuvan theatre said they stopped the screening of the film, and were awaiting instructions from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce and Distributor for further action.

Further similar protests were also observed at Hubli and Belgaum cities, where police used batons to disperse the gathered protesters; however the screening were not cancelled.

As for the reason behind this unrest, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Narayana Gowda said that one of the dialogues in the film refers to 'Kannadigas as dogs'. He claimed that they are hurt and will not allow the screening of the film till the objectionable portions are removed.

The film, Singham is the remake of a Tamil blockbuster with the same name. The film has been remade in Kannada as Kempe Gowda.
