‘Real’ Life Inspires ‘Reel’ Life:

Remember the scene in BOBBY when Rishi Kapoor visits Dimple Kapadia’s house for the first time and Dimple, who’s got flour [aata] on her hand and hair, opens the door? Well, that scene was straight out of Raj Kapoor’s life when he visited Nargis’ house for the first time, way back in the 1950s. Real life does inspire reel life, which is evident from this fact. The new release CHALTE CHALTE also has a scene that’s straight out of director Aziz Mirza’s life. Soon after their marriage, Shah Rukh Khan brings Rani Mukherji to his home. But since there’s no one to do the rituals when the newly-wed bride enters home for the first time, SRK does it all by himself. This sequence, undoubtedly one of the best in the enterprise, actually transpired in Aziz’s life when he got married to Nirmala [his wife] about 40 years ago. In fact, Aziz Mirza tells me, While scripting the film, we drew inspiration from everyone’s life, including Shah Rukh’s, to give the film a realistic feel. No wonder, the audiences are finding the film very identifiable!
