Raanjhanaa is a major Hit at the box office and has ended up working for everyone involved. While Sonam Kapoor has managed to secure a success after long, Dhanush has found his feet in Bollywood. Krishika Lulla has managed further credibility as a producer while director Aanand L Rai has shown that Tanu Weds Manu was not a fluke.
Buoyed by the film's success, Aanand is now planning to bring his next on floors soon. The film would also mark his trilogy of romantic musicals.
"He has made up his mind to stick to telling romantic tales at least for now," says a close associate of the director, "Raanjhanaa has been well appreciated and so was the case with Tanu Weds Manu. Both have been inherently romantic tales but again quite different from the usual mushy love stories that one usually sees in Bollywood. With his new film, he would be taking love to the next level."
Though Aanand is currently keeping everything quite hush-hush, those close to him vouch for the fact that his newest love story too is going to be as unconventional as it gets.
"He is not going to play simple this time around too," the associate adds, "He took a lot of gambles in Raanjhanaa and succeeded. Who could have thought of a South Indian youngster as a Banarasi hero, a heroine carrying grey shades, a hero dying in the end and still ensure repeat audience for his film? In fact not many know that he started his career with a thriller called Strangers (with Jimmy Sheirgill and Kay Kay Menon) which had boasted of a twisted plot as well. Now his newest love story would be breaking away from quite a few cliches as well."
As for the shock element being a constant feature in his films, Aanand is not willing to divulge anything about his upcoming outing. All that he confirms is, "Yes, my next is going to be a romantic musical again. However that would again belong to my own style. I can't be telling stories that have been told. There are so many interesting love stories to be narrated. My next is all set to be one amongst these."
Though he has in mind the actors he wishes to rope in, he isn't sounding anyone about them yet. Meanwhile, given his unconventional choices of the leading men so far, case in point being Dhanush, Madhavan and Jimmy Sheirgill, it won't be surprising if someone altogether fresh makes the cut yet again for his next.
