Manisha to enact title role in Ganga

Ace dress designer Manisha Malhotra is all set to don a new robe that of a movie director. I have been nursing the desire [to direct a film] for a long time now, Manish tells me, But I never confided in anyone about it. I thought I would take the plunge later. In fact, Suneel had initially approached Manish almost a year ago, but the ace designer was in two minds, whether to accept the offer or not.

So when Suneel approached him again recently, Manish accepted the offer instantly. I am devoting the next six months on writing the script, Manish divulges. Together with friend Niranjan Iyengar, Manish will pen the screenplay, while Niranjan alone will pen the dialogue.

Only when the script is ready will Manish decide on the star cast. It'll be a solo-hero, solo-heroine project. No, it won't revolve around the fashion industry, nor will garments take precedence over the actual content of the film, Manish reads my mind to clear the doubts, It will be a musical. The music director hasn't been finalised yet.

To train himself in the technical department, Manish will watch and grasp the medium when Yash Chopra begins filming his next film later this year.

Suneel Darshan is equally gung-ho about the project in question. People shouldn't doubt Manish's abilities just because he hasn't had a formal training in film direction, he tells me, Can you believe it, Manish's decision to direct a film took even his close friends Karan [Johar] and Adi [Aditya Chopra] by surprise. But all of us are supremely confident that Manish will make a great film.

Manish is expected to start filming in October next year.
