‘Johnny Gaddaar’ – Exclusive info

Adlabs has announced that it will be producing and distributing Sriram Raghavans JOHNNY GADDAAR. A suspense thriller from the team that made EK HASINA THI, the film is in the mould of FARGO, PULP FICTION and LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS. JOHNNY GADDAAR is slated for release in May 2007.

The film features an ensemble cast featuring Dharmendra and introducing Neil Nitin Mukesh, who previously worked as an assistant director with Yash Raj for four years and has an impeccable film lineage as the son of Nitin Mukesh and grandson of singer Mukesh. The cast also comprises Rimi Sen, Zakir Hussain, Vinay Pathak, Daya Shetty and Ashwini Kalsekar. It has music by Vishal-Shekhar.

JOHNNY GADDAAR revolves around a gang of five men, the eldest [Dharmendra] over 60, the youngest [Neil] in his 20s, who face the bright prospect of making a fortune through what seems to be a simple exchange of contraband for money on a train. However, one of the gang members gets killed before he can make the exchange and the money he was holding, disappears.

What follows is a ruthless search for the thief and killer who must be a traitor amongst them, for who else could have known about the heist?

Says director Sriram Raghavan, I grew up on the crime novels of James Hadley Chase, although this movie is not based on any Chase novel. Why the title JOHNNY GADDAAR considering there is no character by that name in the movie? Well, its a homage to one of my all-time favorite movies JOHNNY MERA NAAM by the great Vijay Anand. And its got a reason in the movie too, which youll have to watch.
