First impression counts

First impression is the final impression. And the Hindi film industry has realized the importance of the first look – be it the first poster of a film or the promo – well enough. No wonder, a majority of film-makers and studios ensure that the first look transmits right signals to moviegoers across the globe.

Two weeks ago, the first look posters of the Salman Khan starrer READY created a flutter, when unveiled on Bollywood Hungama. Salman’s fans, naturally, went berserk, since READY is the most anticipated film after the star delivered two smash hits in WANTED and DABANGG. And when the first promo of READY went on air, the reactions were unprecedented. In fact, I would go to the extent of saying that the first promo of READY was akin to an event, with television viewers and netizens across the globe echoing a similar sentiment that READY seemed like a worthy successor to WANTED and DABANGG.

A few days ago, the first look of David Dhawan’s laughathon RASCALS created a similar stunning impact, when unveiled on Bollywood Hungama. The first reaction was that of disbelief, but when it brought a smile on one’s face instantly. David, who was flooded with congratulatory messages, couldn’t stop grinning for the next few days. “The credit for planning this campaign should go to Rahul Nanda. RASCALS is a joyride and the first poster has succeeded in sending out the right signals,” the King of masala entertainers tells me.

In the past too, the first look posters of YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA, TANU WEDS MANU, DUM MAARO DUM, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, SHAGIRD, RAGINI MMS, SHOR – IN THE CITY, HAUNTED and LUV KA THE END had met with a terrific impact when launched on Bollywood Hungama.
