A storm fan, which was being manned by five people, went out of control on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas. In a freak accident on December 9, the blades of the huge storm fan flew out loose severely injuring one worker and rendering the other mentally affected as he received a severe blow to his head. It threw the shooting of the film completely out of gear. The injured worker Dindayal, later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The other worker Raju is still recovering from his injuries. The electrician who was not aware that two of the people who should have been there had gone to answer the nature's call started the fan, which has to be handled by five persons. The three remaining attendants tried their level best to control the huge fan, but failed. The long blades of the fan came out loose, cutting through the face of one and hitting the head of another attendant. The shooting was halted immediately and the two injured unit members were rushed to a hospital. The set, constructed by Nitin Desai, has been one of the best and elaborate sets constructed at Bombay's Film City. Joqauim Rebello, the General Secretary of the Movies Action Dummy Effects Association (MADEA) assured that they will be taking up the issue of compensation for the Dindayal and Raju though they were not members of the association. This is the latest in series of accidents on the sets of film shoots. Hollywood veterans feel that safety is not a priority in the Indian movie industry. What do you feel??
