Remaking a cult is a tough job.Italian Job is one of the finest films of hollywood.
Can Abbas-Mustan do justice to the original ? can they deliver another racy thriller like 'Race' ? lets find out. Players has an interesting story but it is very difficult to make it look convincing onscreen and that's where the film falters. the screenplay fails to do justice to an interesting and gripping story.sure Players has its moments but the overall product is just not satisfying.In the first half some scenes excite you but the others don't.the train robbery is shoddily executed and looks unreal for the most of the part.the pre-interval twist is good.
while the first half is quite average,the second half gets on to a thrilling mode.
there are several twists and turns to keep the viewer hooked.the climax seems bit too long but makes a good impact nonetheless.dialogues are good.
action is a mainstay of the film.it surely keeps you on the edge of the seat.
music is decent.cinematography is first-rate.the locales are captured beautifully.direction by Abbas Mustan is strictly average.they have given us brilliant thrillers in the past and one surely expects the same from the players but the audience is disappointed this time ! coming to the performances,
Abhishek Bachchan is decent.he looks dull in some of the scenes, his performance could have been better.Sonam Kapoor disappoints. she needs to brush up her acting skills.Neil Nitin Mukesh is Good.though he goes over the top in some scenes, overall his performance is decent.Bobby Deol is wasted.Omi Vaidya is funny in some scenes but hams in other scenes.
Sikander Kher is alright ! Bipasha Basu is good.she gives in a natural performance.she also looks ethereal.Johnny lever is the real scene stealer.
Vinod Khanna is okay.Aftab shivdasani and Shweta bharadwaj are there just for a scene.overall, PLAYERS is exciting in parts only,not in totality.One surely expected much much more !
