4.5 Excellent

Indian Cinema has not divulged much into the subject of political thriller which generally leads to controversy as it is a sensitive issue exposing important people in the process. Classic example being controversial Hollywood film JFK starring Kevin Costner and Gary Oldman which paved a way to lot of speculation. Madras Cafe has its own share of story which has been blunt and hard-hitting and yet hair-raising.

Set in 90's , Madras Cafe debriefs the true story of planning and assassination of Indian ex-prime minister Rajiv Gandhi by LTTE suicide bomber which shocked the entire world and led to a Indian politics letdown.

From critical acclaim films like Yahaan and Vicky Donor , Shoojit Sircar explores a new area which I guess no other Indian filmmaker has attempted till now and gives heart-wrenching political thriller which is sure to give you a goose bumps. It is sad to know that Indian Government was aware of Rajiv Gandhi's assassination but could not do much as he was already on his death path. The best part of the film is the crucial historical background narrated by Sircar rising to the conflict between Indian government and LTTE force in SriLanka. Every frame has been captured exotically and accurately. The best of all the scene is astonishing and well-shot assassination scene which had my heart pounding for a minute. Hats off to the Shoojit Sircar for directing it so well. Applaud for the cinematography for exclusive camera work. Art direction needs special mention. Editing is crispy. Script is the hero of the film. Once you are into the film , you will not know how the time flew. John Abraham completely surprises with his brilliant portrayal of Vikram Singh. He is sure to get acclaim for his riveting performance. Watch for him in climax scene. Siddharth Basu , Nargis Fakhri and other star cast lends a good support.

Overall , Madras Cafe is heart-wrenching , reality-based political thriller that is going to get goose bumps. Brilliant 4.5/5
