The movie deals with people who are not afraid of speaking their minds and have the guts to go the extra mile.Buddhadev Gupta(Amitabh Bachhan) is an indian restaurant owner in London with a cocky attitude ,one day he meets Neena(Tabu) who points out fallacies in his zafrani pulao which kind of outrages him and later it turns out she was right. One thing leads to another from there on and they start liking each other and finally decide to get married. The film also features Paresh Rawal .

Now with this movie there a couple of lessons for two set of people. One for Filmmakers like Ram Gopal Verma, for understanding that even Bold subjects can be treated with finesse and presented in a manner that it caters to the tastes of masses. The second one is for all those who with every flop reinstigate the debate for Mr. Bachchans retirement.. With this performance he has again proved that he is an old wine which can only get better with time and even at 64 stands at a level where the todays so called “Sexy-Superstars” can only dream to be. It is perhaps only Big B who inspires creative people like R Balki(director) to conceptualise and create stories like these on the silver screen .Cheeni Kam is a complex yet simple, salty yet sweet, slow yet engrossing attempt by Balki to re-tell a Nishabd or Lolita, an attempt which is sure to touch the hearts of the people at large. Though the concept of 64 year old marrying a 34 old should have very few takers in our society, it is the presentation of this content which has made all the difference. In a quiet, humorous manner it makes you accept the story as believable reality. Even the suggestive humor doesn’t take on ur nerves.Performances form Tabu, Paresh , little girl and old mother are a treat to watch. The chemistry bw Big B & Tabu defies all laws of gravity. Music is only to support the screenplay, but still Illyaraja is anyday a better composer than this. On the flip side, first half of this tale could have been much crispier. A faster pace would have made prospects better. All in all whether you take it on an entertaining scale, performance scale or believe in weighing the style quotient of Mr. Bachchan’s pony tail – On every front you will get an affirmative nod for seeing this movie. On commercial side, movie is and will be lapped in Multiplex audiences. In the interiors the well polished stuff will still find the going tuf, thanks to its Alien concept. This Admaker is a filmmaker to watch out for!

CHEENI KUM: an odd title? Yes CHEENI KUM: Taboo issue? Yes CHEENI KUM: Wonderful? YES!!! this is a fantastic movie. Everything about this movie works to its advantage. Whether it is Amitabh Bachchan, bitching at the chefs in his restaurant or Tabu's natural beauty. Director R. Balki has expertly weaved a masterpiece together. He does it soo well, that we do not even realise that the Amitabh - Tabu love story is actually a taboo issue. On top of that the humour is totally based on wit and none of the retarded crap you see in trashy films such as Chup Chup Ke or Phir Hera Pheri. Ilayaaraja's music is in sync with the film. It is soft on the ears, it beats that noise we have recently been hearing from Himesh Reshammiya. The cinematography is wonderful, capturing london well. The performances are brilliant. Amitabh Bachchan is dazzling as the sarcastic chef, his acting in the penultimate reels bypasses his work in K3G, Nishabd and Sholay. Tabu is a complete natural as always, she looks alluring and complements her new look with a nuanced performance. Zohra Seghal is humurous as the gym obsessed mother, she will bring a smile to you face. Swini Khara as Sexy, is probably the best new find this year so far after Jiah Kham, she is so much more confident and professional than those loser child artists with irritating high voices that one sees in bollywood films. Paresh Rawal is proficient.

Wonderful movie. i'm so glad that people are writing roles for mr bachchan that really suit him. This is a very simple story told with a very witty style. I was grinning throughout this movie and laughing loudly at some scenes - which i never normally do. Nothing is overlooked here, even though it is a comedy, its very honest and tackles all the potential problems in this relationship between an old man and a young lady - its surprising that it still manages to be so funny. This new little girl is absolutely amazing and deserves to be recognised for her brilliant delivery, she delivers some of the wisest and funniest lines in the movie - without sounding cutey... she provides a grim alternative to normal kiddy roles. A great indian movie that we can proudly showcase to the world.

Rarely do Bollywood movies live up to their hype. This one comes very close. Amitabh Bachchan owns Spice6, the best Indian restaurant in London. To him, being a chef is more than a profession. It is an art, in fact, the greatest art of all. He personally ensures every dish that leaves his kitchen is up to his exacting standards. His employees respect him, but his angered outbursts send shivers down their spine. It is during one such outburst that he sees a dish, Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao no less, returned by a customer (Tabu) because it’s too sweet (and hence the recommendation to reduce sugar or Cheeni Kum). Enraged, he walks up to the table, and challenges Tabu to make it any better. She leaves without uttering a word, but brings in some Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao the next day that even Amitabh finds delicious. He now owes her an apology, thus setting into motion a series of events that lead to attraction between the two, and finally love. Although the age gap between Amitabh and Tabu is there to see, it is totally downplayed and doesn’t even come into focus until later in the second half. Their exchanges are loaded with witty repartees and sarcastic remarks that leave the audience in splits. The tight script and screenplay make sure the movie progresses at a good pace although it was slow at times for my liking. I think the director fell for the Bollywood norm of making 2½ hour movies. Also, the movie loses its grip toward the end. The scenes are predictable and the melodrama avoidable. These are minor indiscretions of a first-time director, and in no way, reduce the overall appeal. If you ask me, it is certainly worth a second watch. Amitabh is calm and composed. The role doesn’t challenge him much, but he plays it with conviction. Tabu is brilliant. The last time I saw her was in Fanaa, and firmly believed she’s insane. Not only did she pick the right movie here, she’s ensured her character isn’t sidelined. In fact, in several scenes, her character comes out on top of Amitabh’s, and is credible thanks to her acting abilities. Zohra Sehgal, as Amitabh’s mom, is on a roll. Swini Khara as Sexy, Amitabh’s 7-year old neighbor is cute, and gets to deliver a few punch lines too. Paresh Rawal as Tabu’s father is disappointing. His character is too clichéd and completely out of sync with the movie. In sum, Cheeni Kum is no bitter pill. I rate it 4/5.

In a nutshell, CHINI KUM is a very lovely romantic cum comedy movie. The humour in this is quite urban and acting is simply superb. Director Balki has used few things very intelligently to insert humour in the movie like- 1) Taunt passing between shefs over Teeth of other shef. 2) DVDs which sexy demands 3) Zohras sehgal fondness with GYM. 4) Ghas Phoos and Tangdi Kabab :)) 5) The "intelligent" talks of Sexy. First half is really gud and it was really a treat to watch BigB and Tabu "flirting" ;-).

This is a must watch movie for everyone. This movie is so beautifully made that I feel like watching it again and again. Amitabh is the baap of all. He's just superb. Tabu really rocks. She looks so good. I dont think she has ever looked so beautiful before. Very simple and sober. I've really become a fan of Tabu now. In the end I just want to tell everyone that its a total paisa wasool film. Go for it. Highly recommended.
