Veteran actor Jayanthi passes away at 76

Senior South Indian actor Jayanthi, who worked in over 500 films across southern industries and a couple of Hindi films passed away on Monday, July 26. She was 76 and died peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Bengaluru.

Reportedly, Jayanthi passed away due to age-related ailments. Jayanthi made her film debut in 1963 with the Kannada film Jenu Goodu. Before entering films, she was a dancer. She is known for films like Kalaavati, Miss Leelavathi, Thulasi, Banashankari among others.

 

Some of Jaynathi's best Tamil films include Karnan, Ethir Neechal, Iru Kodugal and Neerkumizhi among others. In Telugu she worked with NT Rama Rao in most of her films and in Kannada she worked in over 30 films with late actor Rajkumar. She had also worked in six Malayalam films and four Hindi films as well. Her Hindi film include Lal Bangla (1966), Teen Bahuraniyan (1968), Gunda (1970), and Tumse Achha Kaun Hai (1969).
