Ever since it was announced, Toxic — the upcoming Kannada film starring Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas — has been generating steady buzz. From the unconventional pairing of lead actor and director to rumours of creative differences on set, the film has remained in the headlines. However, actor Sudev Nair, who plays a key role in the film, dismissed the speculation, calling the experience one of “good teamwork” and mutual respect.

In a conversation with OTT Play, Sudev shared insights into the collaborative nature of the production. “Geetu is highly skilled, everyone knows that. Yash chose to work with her after so long, and he himself has a deep understanding of filmmaking. With Rajeev Ravi doing the cinematography, the film was in safe hands,” he said. “It was give and take — Yash took Geetu’s suggestions, and she took his. It wasn’t about status or seniority; the only goal was the film.”

 

Yash Earned Praise as an Actor, Not Just a Star

 

Having worked across Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi film industries, Sudev described his time on set with Yash as a rewarding creative experience. “Yash is a very good actor, not just a star,” he noted. “He was open to discussions and never carried any airs. We even spoke about my performance. It was very rewarding.”

 

A Film That Demanded Scale and Patience

 

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, best known for her critically acclaimed film Moothon, Toxic was scheduled for release in March 2026. Sudev highlighted the contrast between this big-budget project and his fast-paced Malayalam series Kammattam, which wrapped in just 11 days across 40 locations.

 

“Toxic was the other extreme,” he explained. “It required time and patience. It was a large-scale project, and we aimed for perfection in every frame. There were scenes that took two or three days to shoot.”
