Suriya donates Rs. 10 Crore from Retro profits to Agaram foundation

Tamil superstar Suriya has once again proven that his heart is as big as his stardom. At the recent success meet of his latest film Retro, the actor announced that he is donating a whopping Rs. 10 crore from the film’s profits to his educational NGO, the Agaram Foundation. The gesture was widely applauded on social media, with fans and film industry members praising Suriya for his consistent commitment to giving back to society.

At the event, as reported by India Today, an emotional Suriya expressed his gratitude and the motivation behind this contribution. “The greatest joy lies in sharing. I’m grateful to give back to the community that has given me identity and purpose as an actor. Your support for Retro has filled me with happiness and strength, especially during tough times,” he said, addressing both the media and his fans.

 

He further added, “Agaram Foundation was born out of a desire to make the recognition you’ve given me meaningful. Thanks to this support, thousands of students are pursuing their dreams. This year, I’m proud to contribute Rs 10 crore to the foundation from the earnings of Retro. Let’s support young minds who dream of higher education—because education is a weapon, and education is a shield.”

 

Retro, which released in 2025, is a Tamil-language romantic action film directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Stone Bench Creations in collaboration with Suriya’s own banner, 2D Entertainment. The film stars Suriya as Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, an orphan raised by a gangster who must navigate betrayal, cult violence, and an emotional reunion with his lost love Rukmini, played by Pooja Hegde. With its unique blend of love, laughter, and war, the film has struck a chord with audiences and critics alike.

 

With music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali, Retro has performed well at the box office. The film’s mix of emotional drama and action has found a solid audience, and its success has enabled Suriya to channel his earnings toward a cause he has long supported.
