Mohanlal starrer Lucifer to re-release ahead of L2: Empuraan premiere; Prithviraj Sukumaran reacts

L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer, is already making waves with record-breaking overseas distribution deals and immense fan anticipation. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film has reportedly surpassed the overseas rights record previously held by Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha, setting a new benchmark for Malayalam cinema.

The excitement for L2: Empuraan was evident when fans gathered at New York’s Times Square for the grand unveiling of its teaser, celebrating the film’s global appeal. The response has been overwhelming, with ticket sales for the film’s North American premiere setting new records, further solidifying its position as one of the most anticipated Indian films of 2025.

 

Speaking about the love the film has received, Prithviraj said, "It is incredible to receive this kind of love from audiences worldwide. As a special treat, Lucifer is set for a theatrical re-release on March 20, giving audiences a chance to relive the political thriller before L2: Empuraan arrives in cinemas on March 27, 2025.

 

For the unversed, Prithviraj made his directorial debut with Lucifer, which became the first Malayalam film to cross ₹200 crore at the box office. With this sequel, expectations have reached new heights as the film promises to take forward the gripping narrative that captivated audiences in 2019. Also starring Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney, Suraj Venjaramoodu, among others, the film also stars Prithviraj in a key role.
