Jr. NTR, whose electrifying performance in S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR captivated audiences worldwide, recently shared a heartfelt tribute during a special screening of the film at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London on May 11. The event included a live musical performance led by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, celebrating the film’s acclaimed soundtrack — especially the global hit ‘Naatu Naatu’.

During the event, Jr. NTR reflected on the cultural and emotional impact of ‘Naatu Naatu’, which won Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards. Speaking to a packed audience, he revealed that the now-iconic dance number was more than just a performance — it was a tribute to two of Telugu cinema’s greatest dancers: Chiranjeevi Garu and Nandamuri Balakrishna, fondly known to him as “Babai.”

 

“You know his father was known to be one of the greatest dancers, my uncle was also known to be a very good dancer,” Jr. NTR said, referring to Ram Charan’s father Chiranjeevi and his own uncle Balakrishna. “So I think this song will be a memory of what if his father and my uncle danced, and this is an ode to fabulous great dancers Chiranjeevi Garu and Balakrishnan Babai,” he added.

 

RRR remains one of the most celebrated Indian films globally, not only for its scale and storytelling but also for how it redefined Indian cinema’s presence on the world stage. The song Naatu Naatu, featuring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, became a cultural phenomenon, known for its infectious energy and choreography.

 

While the film continues to win hearts globally, Jr. NTR is now preparing for his next major project, NTRNeel, directed by KGF and Salaar filmmaker Prashanth Neel. The film is expected to be a high-octane action entertainer, promising another powerful performance from the actor.
