In a shocking turn of events, Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine have been booked under serious charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust in connection with their upcoming film Action Hero Biju 2. The FIR was registered on Wednesday night at the Thalayolaparambu police station, based on a complaint filed by P S Shamnas, a co-producer of the 2022 film Mahaveeryar.

FIR filed against actor Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine for alleged Rs. 1.9 crores fraud over Action Hero Biju 2

According to the complaint, Shamnas alleged that since Mahaveeryar failed to perform well commercially, Nivin Pauly had personally offered to compensate him with Rs. 95 lakhs. Furthermore, Pauly reportedly promised to make him a partner in the production of Action Hero Biju 2, directed by Shine. Acting on this assurance, Shamnas claimed he invested approximately Rs. 1.9 crore towards the film’s production.

Shamnas also stated that the movie was officially registered under his company, Indian Movie Makers, which reinforced his understanding of being a key production partner. However, he later discovered that Pauly and Shine allegedly entered into a Rs. 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based company by presenting an earlier agreement that cited the film as a venture under Pauly’s own production banner.

The complaint asserts that this act concealed the involvement of Indian Movie Makers and resulted in a loss of Rs. 1.9 crore, thus amounting to fraud.

Following the media buzz, Nivin Pauly issued a clarification via social media. He stated that the matter has already been under court-directed arbitration since June 28, and a gag order has been imposed to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings. He further mentioned that legal action will be taken in response to the allegations.

An investigation is currently underway, with the police confirming that the charges fall under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC.

This controversy has stirred significant conversation within the Malayalam film industry, especially considering the high expectations surrounding Action Hero Biju 2.
