Zeenat Aman and Feroz Khan’s iconic song, ‘Laila O Laila’, continues to be a timeless classic, leaving an indelible mark on the Bollywood music scene. In a candid moment, she shared that the popular track was initially filmed for a different project, Kasak, and not for their 1980 blockbuster Qurbani.

From Kasak to Qurbani: The Surprising Journey of ‘Laila O Laila’
In a clip shared by Sony TV’s official Instagram, Zeenat recounted the original intention behind Laila O Laila. She explained, “When ‘Laila O Laila’ was picturised…it was the first shooting stint that I did with Feroz sahab and it wasn’t for the film Qurbani. It was for a film called Kasak. We shot for this song with a lot of love and hard work and passion. Later, Feroz Khan sahab decided that he didn't want to make that film (Kasak) and the whole song was lifted and used in Qurbani.” This revelation has stunned fans, as many have always associated the song with Qurbani, one of Bollywood's most memorable films.
Zeenat Aman and Feroz Khan’s Complicated Yet Productive Relationship
Zeenat Aman’s relationship with Feroz Khan, which began in the 1970s, was not without its challenges. In a post shared on her Instagram, Zeenat spoke about the rocky start to their professional collaboration. Initially, Zeenat had declined a minor role in one of Feroz Khan's films. However, fate intervened, and she was eventually cast as the lead in Qurbani, which became one of the highest-grossing films of 1980.
Despite some initial tension between them, including an incident where Feroz docked Zeenat’s pay for being late to the set after a night of partying, the two developed a strong professional bond. Zeenat recounted, “I landed up one hour late to set. Feroz was glowering behind his camera, and before I could offer him my meagre excuse, he cut me down to size. ‘Begum, you’re late and you’re going to pay for the delay.’ No argument, no scolding, but you can be sure that he docked my pay to pay the crew for that one hour delay.”
Despite their initial differences, Zeenat fondly remembered Feroz as “suave, charming, and polished,” highlighting the professional respect they shared.
