Is Vicky Kaushal the new Jimmy Sheirgill? In 9 out of 12 films, he didn’t live happily ever after with his on-screen heroines

Thanks to his incredible acting talent, humble nature and cute-and-dashing looks, Vicky Kaushal has amassed a huge fan following. He’s the crush of millions of girls. Yet, it will be surprising to know that though he has done 12 films till date as a leading man, he didn’t live happily ever with his on-screen heroines in 9 of them! In most cases, he didn’t win the girl in the climax.

Is Vicky Kaushal the new Jimmy Sheirgill? In 9 out of 12 films, he didn’t live happily ever after with his on-screen heroines

Bollywood Hungama had this observation after a journalist, at the trailer launch of Vicky’s upcoming film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, asked the actor why doesn’t he get along with his leading ladies. The actor smartly drew parallels with the happy ending in his real life, that is, getting married to actress Katrina Kaif. Vicky Kaushal quipped, “Bhagwan hamesha har ek ki zindagi mein santulan deta hai. Toh jab meri real life itni sort ho gayi haiki Katrina mil gayi haitoh unhone kaha ki ‘bhaiteri reel life mein hamesha gadbad rahegi lekin teri real life main sort kar dunga’.”

This got us thinking about how we have barely seen this heartthrob having a happy ending in his films and how his heroines have mostly ditched him. In fact, it also reminded us of how people, some years back, had noted that Jimmy Sheirgill never gets the girl in the end. So is it fair to see that Vicky Kaushal is the new Jimmy Sheirgill?

Let’s look at the 9 films of Vicky Kaushal where he didn’t win over the girl

1. Masaan(2015)

The actor came into the limelight with this well-made saga. The love story of Deepak (Vicky Kaushal) and Shalu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) is the cutest part of the film. Shalu dies in the second half in an accident, leaving Deepak heartbroken. His dialogue ‘Yeh dukh kaahe khatam nahin hota’ has become iconic and also a meme.

2. Raman Raghav 2.0(2016)

Raghav (Vicky Kaushal) has a twisted relationship with Simi (Sobhita Dhulipala) and in the end, he kills her.

3. Raazi(2018)

Sehmat (Alia Bhatt) is a secret agent from India who marries Pakistani officer Iqbal (Vicky Kaushal). Iqbal loves her with all his heart but things get complicated due to the relationship between the two countries. In the end, Iqbal is killed in an explosion.

4. Lust Stories(2018)

Vicky Kaushal features in the short directed by Karan Johar. Paras (Vicky) marries Megha (Kiara Advani) and is unable to satisfy her in bed. This compels Megha to use a vibrator but it leads to disastrous consequences. The last scene ends with the hope that Vicky and Megha will get back together but it still isn’t a happily-ever-after for Vicky.

5. Sanju(2018)

Kamli (Vicky Kaushal) gets betrayed by his best friend Sanju (Ranbir Kapoor) after the former dozes off and the latter then sleeps with Kamli’s girlfriend Pinky (Karishma Tanna). The story spans many years; Kamli gets successful in life but is shown staying alone. Presumably, he neither gets married nor has a girlfriend.

6. Manmarziyaan(2018)

Vicky Sandhu (Vicky Kaushal) has a sizzling chemistry with Rumi (Taapsee Pannu). She leaves him to marry Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan). Vicky and Rumi bond even after marriage but after a point, Vicky reaches a point where he leaves Rumi.

7. Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal), an honest dashing officer, is surrounded by two capable and smart officers, Pallavi (Yami Gautam Dhar) and Seerat (Kirti Kulhari) but there’s not even 1% hint of romance with either of them.

8. BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship(2020)

Prithvi (Vicky Kaushal) in this film is a widower who loses his wife Sapna (Bhumi Pednekar) and daughter Megha in a freak accident. He’s so busy fighting ghosts that he never gets the chance to go on dates.

9. Govinda Naam Mera(2022)

Govinda Waghmare (Vicky Kaushal) is dating Suku (Kiara Advani) and she betrays him and how. Govinda’s wife Gauri (Bhumi Pednekar) treats him like a servant. In the end, Govinda and Gauri get back but there’s no guarantee given by the makers that they will leave happily ever after like an ideal couple and that Gauri will treat him with respect.

The two films where Vicky had a happy union with his on-screen partner are Zubaan (2016), co-starring Sarah Jane Dias, and Love Per Square Foot (2018), co-starring Angira Dhar.

Vicky’s next, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, meanwhile, releases on June 2. It stars Sara Ali Khan and it seems like a sweet love story. Here’s hoping that we don’t see Vicky heartbroken and single at the end of this flick.

P.S.: The twelfth film that Vicky Kaushal was a part of was Sardar Udham (2021). We haven’t taken it into consideration as it’s a tale of the brave freedom fighter, Sardar Udham Singh.
