Vaani Kapoor calls global success of Netflix series Mandala Murders her ‘most meaningful reward’

Netflix and YRF Entertainment’s much-anticipated series Mandala Murders premiered on July 25, 2025, introducing audiences to a mythological-crime thriller unlike any seen before on Indian OTT. For Vaani Kapoor, the show was particularly significant as it marked her streaming debut and her first creative collaboration with filmmaker Gopi Puthran, best known for helming the acclaimed Mardaani franchise.

Reflecting on the journey, Vaani Kapoor expressed gratitude for the global response the series has received. She said, “Seeing Mandala Murders trend globally for three weeks straight has been incredibly surreal. I never imagined the kind of overwhelming response it would receive. I'm beyond grateful to every single person who has watched and supported the show. This streaming debut marks a deeply personal milestone for me, one that I will cherish forever.”

 

She further added, “Mandala Murders was made with immense heart, and to see it resonate so powerfully across borders is the most meaningful reward we could have asked for. India has always been known for its mythology and stories, and I believe it’s this rootedness that allows our content to connect so deeply not just with audiences here, but also with viewers around the globe who are curious about our culture and identity.”

 

Mandala Murders is the second release under Netflix and YRF Entertainment’s partnership, following the global acclaim of The Railway Men in 2023. Based on the novel The Butcher of Benares, the series is set in the fictional town of Charandaspur, Uttar Pradesh. It intricately weaves together crime, psychological suspense, supernatural horror, and mythological elements. The plot follows detectives Rea Thomas and Vikram Singh as they investigate a string of ritualistic killings tied to a secret cult known as the Aayastis and a terrifying mythical entity called Yast.

 

The series features an ensemble cast with Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Surveen Chawla, and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles. Created and directed by Gopi Puthran, with Manan Rawat as co-director, Mandala Murders is produced by YRF Entertainment. With its global resonance and critical buzz, Mandala Murders has firmly positioned itself as one of the most ambitious and genre-bending Indian originals on Netflix.
