SHOCKING: Anurag Kashyap says, “UTV Motion Pictures left Gangs Of Wasseypur 3 days before shoot; they asked me, ‘Nawazuddin Siddiqui kis angle se yeh role karega?’”

Anurag Kashyap had a fascinating conversation with Komal Nahta where he spoke about his several films, including Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012). Today, this two-part crime saga is considered a cult. But Anurag revealed in this interview that he got a jolt as the studio partner, UTV Motion Pictures, left the film just three days before it was to go on floors.

 

SHOCKING: Anurag Kashyap says, “UTV Motion Pictures left Gangs Of Wasseypur 3 days before shoot; they asked me, ‘Nawazuddin Siddiqui kis angle se yeh role karega?’”

 

Anurag Kashyap said, “I left my fees for Gangs Of Wasseypur. UTV Motion Pictures was initially producing that film. They asked me, ‘Nawazuddin Siddiqui kis angle se yeh role karega?’. They asked me to get a bigger actor for that part. 3 days before the shoot was to start, they left the film. All my actors and crew were already at the location.”

 

He continued, “This is when I met Sunil Bohra. He loved the script and the song ‘Bahut Khoob’. He told me, ‘Tu tension mat le. Main baat karta hoon kisi se’. This is a time when Viacom18 Motion Pictures was about to start under Vikram Malhotra. Within 2 days, they came on board and told me, ‘Jao, film banao’. My conviction was so strong that I said, ‘I’ll leave my fees, but I am sure this film would work’.”

 

Anurag added, “It made me learn the lesson that if I don’t put something at stake, why would anybody believe me? Hence, several times in my life, I have put my fees at stake. I say, ‘I don’t want it. Just let me make the film the way I want to. If the film makes money, then you can pay me’.”

 

Besides Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Gangs Of Wasseypur had an ensemble cast featuring Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Reema Sen, Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vineet Kumar Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Huma Qureshi, Anurita Jha, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vipin Sharma, Zeishan Quadri, Aditya Kumar and others.
