Shabana Azmi is hoping for a peaceful 2026: "We must become a more tolerant and compassionate civilization"

Shabana Azmi is shooting in London and not very happy. She is not with her friends in Mumbai for New Year’s. “I am really sad there’s been a break in the 10-year old annual gathering of friends at Sukoon over Christmas and New Year. I’m still in London. I dropped in at the crew party for a bit and then snuggled up in bed… Shukr hai I didn’t have to stay compulsorily awake till midnight.”

Shabana isn’t happy with 2025. But she is hopeful of 2026. “There is so much strife wherever you go. This must end. We must become a more tolerant and compassionate civilization for us to survive in the coming years. It shows the insecurity of a section when it wants to discredit those who speak in a sane voice. They resort to lies and spread falsehood in a desperate attempt to frighten us into silence. To prevent us from being invested in public issues. I feel sorry for them.”
